RCDSB Welcomes Incoming Superintendent Cary Kronwald

The Renfrew County District School Board (RCDSB) is pleased to announce the selection of Cary Kronwald as the incoming Superintendent of Education effective June 3, 2024, joining the senior RCDSB team to fill the vacancy with the upcoming retirement of Superintendent Renald Cousineau.

Cary Kronwald earned a Masters of Education from Charles Sturt University, a Diploma of Education from Concordia University College of Alberta, and a Bachelors of Arts from Carleton University. He brings 22 years of experience in supporting student success, including 11 years as a school administrator for the Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB). Cary has experience in both Elementary and Secondary public education, as well as District-wide initiatives including the Board Leadership Development Strategy and piloting student learning models that were then adopted by the UCDSB.

“I am so excited to join the Renfrew County District School Board to continue my work supporting success for all students,” said Cary Kronwald. “Throughout my career as a teacher and administrator, innovation and passion have inspired me to reinvent, adapt, and be creative. This has helped me to ensure that all students can learn to their greatest potential, and feel included and safe.” 

Cary, along with his wife and daughter will be relocating to Renfrew County from Cornwall, Ontario. They are looking forward to spending weekends exploring what the area has to offer and immersing in the local community. Having grown up on a hobby farm and being involved with 4H, the Ottawa Valley will be a familiar fit. 

The RCDSB leadership team led by the Director of Education, Kristen Niemi, includes the Superintendent of Business & Corporate Services, Jennifer Barnes, the Superintendent of Human Resources & Employee Services, Jacqueline Poirier, three Superintendents of Education where Cary Kronwald joins Jenny Smith and Kristin Riddell, and the Executive Officer of Public Affairs and Communications, Meredith Caplan Jamieson, work together with staff across the District to implement the strategic priorities under the banner to Inspire - Empower - Achieve.
