Character Education

Schools, parents and the broader community in the Renfrew County District School Board (RCDSB) are engaged in character development initiatives. Good character needs to be modelled, taught and practiced by all members of the district's learning community. The attributes of character development are universal and transcend socio-economic status, racial, ethno-cultural, linguistic, religious, gender, physical and intellectual ability and other demographic factors.

Character education provides a foundation of respect and positive behaviours upon which anti-bullying programs can thrive.

Character Virtues

The RCDSB upholds the following character virtues:

  • Respect;
  • Responsibility;
  • Honesty;
  • Perseverance;
  • Optimism;
  • Courage; and
  • Initiative.

Each month the students have been focusing on one of the character virtues. This month we are focusing on "initiative." Being the beginning of the year, the students have chosen a personal initiative goal to focus on this year.
